An important part of the IIT/ACA Summer School in Crystallography will be data collection at the Advanced Photon Source. If you are not already a registered user at the APS, then in order to perform experiments at the Advanced Photon Source you will need to fill out the APS's User Registration Form. All students in the course who are not already users at the APS should fill this form out online. This document is intended to show you how to do that and what dates and names to fill in on the form.
To get to the registration form, use a web browser to get to http://www.aps.anl.gov/ and click on the tab at the top that says "User Information" and pull down "Become a User". Follow the instructions step by step, and eventually you will be prompted to fill out a User Registration form.
Most of the questions on the form will be easy to figure out, but the answers to some of the questions may not be terribly easy to figure out. Here are some answers that should suffice. They may not be 100% accurate, but they should be close enough to get the process going.
| Question | Answer |
| Date of Arrival at Argonne: | 17 July |
| Date & Time of Scheduled Beamtime: | 18 July, 1400hrs |
| Date requested for orientation: | 18 July |
| Is any of your planned research proprietary or potentially proprietary? |
No |
| CAT/Beamline Affiliation: | SER-CAT |
| APS CAT/Beamline Contact: | Andrew J Howard |
| P.I. for Initial Visit's Experiment: | Andrew J Howard |
You should also look to see whether the institution from which you come already has a user agreement in place. If your institution does not have an agreement in place, then it would be useful to get the process begun to establish that user agreement prior to your visit. The list of institutions with user agreements in place can be obtained from the APS website; there, you can see if your employer or academic institution is on the list. If it is not, follow the APS's instructions.
Please e-mail me at howard@iit.edu if you have further questions regarding this process. -Andy Howard
